Old Phenix City Hospital location, before the Cobb Hospital was built:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/915+16th+Ave,+Phenix+City,+AL+36867/@32.4643969,-85.0150483,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sKxkxKy6QaBbwlg5MwnGXRw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x888ccddcfda1e7f7:0x774534d841087967!8m2!3d32.4644069!4d-85.0150644!6m1!1e1

916 16th Street, Phenix City AL, 36867

LOOKS like pretty much nothing up that way at all these days, and from the map, off the beaten path, at least to us folks in modern times. If this link will work here.

This must be the biggest mystery I've seen in a while. BEFORE the Cobb Hospital was built in Phenix City, there was another hospital, closer to town at 913 16th Street. The map

Shows an empty overgrown lot where this phantom hospital once stood. I'm wondering if some ruins, or artifacts, still remain there under the overgrowth of many years, Robert Wright, Brian Mallard, Danny Bee Barrington?

One of the few mentions does indicate that the hospital was going strong in 1938, including a maternity facility: "Ashley Slocumb, b. 10 July 1938, Phenix City Hospital on 16th Street..."

Later was possibly Joe's rummage at 915 16th Street.

Separate post for this, for focus... does anyone remember an old house filled with junk and curios called Joe's Rummage on the 900 block of 16th Street in Phenix City?

It was so long ago and I didn't really find anything I wanted, that I barely remember Joe's Rummage myself. I did stop there a couple of times in 1984, but never did get the chance toi return in the years immediately following, and by the time I did get back there, it was just an empty lot.

There was a big sign out front, "Joe's Rummage" with just all kinds of crazy items from the pat piled and stacked everywhere, it was kind of amazing, but, 1984 being one of my busy years I didn't even get back down that was for a while, maybe late 1980s when I actually moved from Bibb City to Phenix City, and thus began spending every day over there. Joe's Rummage was no longer around by the 1990s, when I did go looking again for it. And now it seems nobody but me and my late wife even remember it.
