All musicians in the area are welcome, friend and foes alike... this
is the one afternoon we should come together for a great cause (some
of you know what I mean, I think) and bring in a new era of peace in
Shadowville.
Ack, jeez, Will, not again... The "Peace of the Grave", perhaps...
R.I.P. Shadowville? Your constant declarations of Peace do not jibe
with the reality "on the ground" here... Not in any respect.
Are you going to do the 55-minute long extended jam version
There will be a lot of musicians sitting in so I expect the songs
could "extend" with various extra solos, but they pretty much stick to
the structures.

And what did any of that have to do with Auburn sports
Glad you asked that.
Not really the 'sports' part, but 'Auburn', certainly, since Smith's
http://www.wikinfo.org/index.php/Smiths_Station%2C_Alabama
So, of all places on Usenet, the Auburn newsgroup is the most likely
one to reach people located 15-30 minutes from the actual event,
making it a near-perfect spot to promote the event.
Specious. The Usenetizens of auburn sports groups may or may not live
in Alabama, and the probability of anyone going to a sports group
looking for information about concerts is slim. You were just being
lazy about looking up appropriate groups, is all...

Del Ranch hosts breast cancer fundraiser Sunday

By Sonya Sorich

IF YOU GO
What: Schryl Carden Breast Cancer Benefit

Where: Del Ranch Bar and Grill, 4920 Lee Road 430, Smiths, Ala.

When: Sunday - action starts at 1 p.m. and lasts through the day

Cost: Free, but donations will be accepted

Advanced Job Search Search by Category Sunday, Del Ranch Bar and Grill
is celebrating the season of giving — with a pink Christmas tree to
prove it.

The hot spot, located in Smiths, Ala., hosts its first Schryl Carden
Breast Cancer Benefit. The event includes draws like music and raffle
prizes — all in the name of supporting breast cancer research.

Action starts at 1 p.m. and lasts throughout the day. An impressive
music lineup boasts seven show-stopping local acts.

The Ranch Hands headline, but you can also look forward to catchy
tunes from Southbound, Will Dockery, Blue Harvest, Jimi Jam and the
Big Fun, Henry Conley and Rick Edwards.

Also, raffle tickets will give guests a chance to win prizes like free
gas.

The benefit is open to partiers 21 and older. There’s no admission
fee, but donations will be accepted.
----

It isn't mentioned in the newspaper article, but probably the best
part of the night will be the all star jam ending where all sorts of
interesting madness will occur onstage, such as me covering such stuff
as "Okie From Muscogee", Porter Wagoner and Red Sovine covers with
all the old-school country & western pickers that'll be in attendance,
this section might get pretty explosive...

Regardless. There is a propriety to be observed. Especially if you want
to establish credibility...
Post by Will Dockery
Here's the newspaper write-up we got this
For instance, the L-E didn't put the story in the sports section, did
they? The alabama.announce group would have been better than .sports,
but .announce doesn't encourage chit chat about the announcements, which
I know would be very difficult for those *ahem* who are addicted to the
pursuit of the "longest thread ever" trophy...

You'd be doing your causes a favor if you could resist the urge to mix
topics within threads, as well. I've started killfiling stuff that I
was posting to just b/c you - or others, I'm not blaming you entirely -
have taken the threads so off-topic they are no longer of any interest.
Note that the first post you made concerning this Benefit was on
another thread, as well. You just changed the subject right in the
middle of a focussed discussion....

I find it useful to remember that posts are typically made for the
benefit of the reader, convenience for the poster that sacrifices the
logic of reading the groups is counter-productive.

Any group has potential for getting out information - the posting to the
sports group amounts to Unsolicited Commercial [Email] (UCE), a.k.a.
SPAM. So. Understand that when you post arts and music material to the
sports groups you become a contributing factor to the "why people don't
read usenet anymore" problem right along with the guys spamming ads for
shoes, handbags, and penis enlargement...

Urm... that was an attempt at humor, and a fond reference to the
infamous/illustrious past reputation of Del Ranch as /the/ redneck
rock venue in the 1970s after the demise of the Jacopa Club (on
Crawford Road) and the Juwan Knight Club (on Victory Drive), where
such pastimes were said to be commonplace, although I never actually
saw it happen. --Larry Rose told the story recently of when Mark
Lindsey of Paul Revere & The Raiders supposedly got punched in the
nose at the Jacopa when he went there with Rose (and probably Lucky
Ward or someone similar) after the Raiders concert at the Municiple
Audiorium, acting like an "English Popstar" and making all the Phenix
City girls in the place swoon-- I know full well that Shadowville is

Within reason, of couse... I'm well aware that "peace" may be a dream that died with John Lennon.

As some great hero once said: "Let's you and him fight."
Are you going to do the 55-minute long extended jam version
There will be a lot of musicians sitting in so I expect the songs
could "extend" with various extra solos, but they pretty much stick to the structures.
Still think the Auburn Sports group has potential for getting out
general information in some case, though.
Any group has potential for getting out information - the posting to the
sports group
Not just any "sports" group, but the /Auburn/ sports group. The notice
was not posted to an Ohio or Canadian sports group, although the
message does apply to the people here there and everywhere... the
people of Auburn are a 15-20 minutes drive from today's event, and
posting the heads up in their group was and is appropriate.

amounts to Unsolicited Commercial
No, you're wrong again, my Republican friend.

There is nothing "commercial" about the post. Nothing is being sold,
no money is being charged for any service, either for the music of the
seating to watch and listen to the music. None of the musicians are
being paid to perform for the audience who are allowed to watch the
performances for free.

"Unsolicited" in that the people of Auburn Alabama had no way of
knowing about the event to /ask/ for it, but only an assclown would
complain about being given the information for a free event in their
area that doesn't cost them a dime, unless they want to contribute to
the cause that all of us are giving our time and energy to help.

Plus, if the sports fans want sports- they got 'em, on widescreen
television sets that will be playing, muted sound, throughout the day.
Post by 0x0000
Understand that when you post arts and music material to the
sports groups
Again, the main point of this post is and was for the cancer benefit,
not the actual music and poetry, and not for any commercial purpose.
The announcement was made for the sports fans of Auburn and anyone
else reading that newsgroup for a good reason, and as I wrote earlier,
everyone is welcome, at no charge, to come and participate on any
level they see as useful.

Cancer is a threat to everyone alive, not just sports fans, poets,
artists... not even you Republicans are excluded from that, and this
benefit show we're all giving our time, energy and talents to is, like
it or not, of interest to all of us and our ilk.

when they are trying to justify their nastiness against the general

Here's my proof: If that paragraph above is really true, and that's
really why you posted the message - for people's "own good" instead of
for the [very obvious, regardless of your obfuscations above]
commercial gain you and others intend to see from this benefit [the
word itself - "benefit" - should give you a clue - the event is
intended to benefit someone], then why didn't you post it to /all/
newsgroups? Ergo quat summa.

And as for your repeated presses of the "Republican" panic button - it's
you who are coming down on the side of the spammers, and everyone knows
that all spammers are republicans. Quid pro quo. Cogito ergo radix

Sure sounded like it
Well, thanks for listening, pal!
And for those in the area, the show is going strong, with the Dockery-
Conley set to begin around 7pm... come join us!
nobody is listening
You're a nobody and you're obviously "listening", so for once you seem
to be onto something, my little friend.

and you desperately need a shave and a shower
You really just sit around dreaming of my facial hair and smell, don't
you?

That's really sad, Orson.

You're a nobody
Three awards, the same job for three years and community accolades and
compliments say otherwise, Duckery. But continue being the bitter,
AFLAC-wanna-be. It's most amusing.

Ack, jeez, Will, not again... The "Peace of the Grave", perhaps...
R.I.P. Shadowville? Your constant declarations of Peace do not jibe
with the reality "on the ground" here... Not in any respect.
Well, that may or may not be true, but as long as ya'll keep your
shooting and stabbing out in the parking lot and don't try to drag us
(me & Conley) into the middle of it... do whatever makes you happy.
What the Hell Will?
Did you just encourage violence outside a breast cancer benefit concert?
This is Alabama - the women here have the finest titties in the world,
but more they're often fought over than not...

Living on Borrowed Dues
She's got the travelling shoes
nothing else to lose
So much of nothing to choose
living on borrowed dues.
She's gonna run away
find a carnival somehow someway.
Or a cabin on a hill
hellbent on chasing a brand new thrill.
She's so disbelieving
thank God she's leaving.
Only the crows know where she flies
building a nest of brand new lies.
She's on a southbound train
on a trip to find her brains.
Under her hat she's been told again
tears like rain chased by her pain.
She's got the travelling shoes
nothing else to lose
So much of nothing to choose
living on borrowed dues.

I did dedicate one song to "Howard", and I'm sure Brian Mallard will
feel right at home when he performs there... heh.

Too, too delicious.
It /was/ a blast, everybody in the place was playing along to the
tunes, guitars, saxophone, mandolin and a little snare drum snapping
away.

Are you going to do the 55-minute long extended jam version
There will be a lot of musicians sitting in so I expect the songs
could "extend" with various extra solos, but they pretty much stick to
the structures.
